Joe Mauer went 5-for-5 and drove in a career-high seven runs as the Minnesota Twins pounded out 20 hits in a 19-1 win over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.
The runs set a season-high and the hits tied a season-best for the Twins, who at one point lead 17-0.
Zack Greinke, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, allowed eight runs and eight hits in four innings. He gave up six runs in the first, including Danny Valencia's grand slam - the first home run of his career.
Mauer had an RBI single in the first, a single in the second, a two-run single in the fourth, an RBI double in the sixth and a three-run homer in the seventh.
Alexi Casilla drove in three runs and scored three times and Jason Kubel had a pair of RBIs for Minnesota, which had 11 extra-base hits - including two homers, seven doubles and two triples.
Twins starter Francisco Liriano (9-7) breezed through seven shutout innings, allowing three hits, striking out six and walking none.
The Royals finally scored in the ninth on Wilson Betemit's RBI double.
Greinke (6-10) has lost all three starts to Minnesota this season, allowing 18 earned runs and 23 hits in 14 innings.
Valencia finished with four hits and four runs and Delmon Young had four hits and an RBI in the winning effort.
