Adam Rosales hit one of three Oakland home runs Sunday afternoon as the Athletics completed a road sweep of Kansas City with a 9-6 victory over the Royals.
Rosales belted a two-run shot over the left-field wall in the fourth inning for his second of the season. Kevin Kouzmanoff had a solo shot in the fifth and Jack Cust added a three-run blast in the ninth as the A's won their fifth straight game to return to the .500 mark for the season.
Trailing 9-1 at one point, the Royals gamely rallied in the ninth inning. Chris Getz had a two-run double, Scott Podsednik drove in a pair of runs with a single and David DeJesus had a run-scoring hit to cut the deficit to 9-6. Andrew Bailey came on for Oakland and got Billy Butler to fly out to right field, ending the threat and the game.
Vin Mazzaro (5-2) was strong for Oakland, allowing one run on seven hits over 7 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out five. Bailey earned his 20th save.
Brian Bannister (7-8) was roughed up as the Royals dropped their sixth straight game. Bannister surrendered five runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings, issuing six walks while striking out two. He is just 1-5 over his last seven starts dating back to June 12.
