Jonny Gomes hit a pair of home runs and had six RBIs to lift the Cincinnati Reds to an 11-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.
Gomes hit a three-run shot to highlight Cincinnati's four-run first inning. After Kansas City scored five runs in the second to take the lead, Gomes answered with another three-run blast in the third to put the Reds ahead for good.
The Reds added another run in the third to make it 8-5 and three more in the fourth to round out the scoring.
Johnny Cueto (6-1) allowed all five of his runs in the second. He went six innings and gave up five hits and four walks with six strikeouts to pick up the win.
Brian Bannister (6-4) was shelled for 11 runs and 10 hits in just three innings. He walked two, struck out two and gave up three homers.
David DeJesus had a three-run triple to highlight the Royals' five-run second.
