Alberto Callaspo homered twice and Scott Podsednik drove in two runs as the Kansas City Royals downed the Minnesota Twins, 10-5, on Sunday.
Billy Butler, Jose Guillen, Podsednik and Callaspo each had three hits for the Royals, who pounded out 16 hits in the contest.
Podsednik, Butler and Guillen all recorded RBI singles off Twins starter Carl Pavano in the third before Callaspo broke the game open with a three-run blast.
Podsednik added another RBI single in the fourth and Callaspo put the game away with another three-run shot in the ninth.
Royals starter Luke Hochevar (2-0) pitched well enough to earn the win, surrendering three runs – two earned – and six hits while walking five and striking out four in six innings.
Two relievers bridged the gap to Joakim Soria, who got the final out in the eighth and held Minnesota scoreless in the ninth to earn the save.
Pavano (2-1) was pounded for 11 hits and charged with all seven runs before being pulled with one out in the fourth.
Joe Mauer went 3-for-4 and Jason Kubel added a pair of hits for the Twins.
