Max Scherzer dominated through eight innings and Jhonny Peralta homered and drove in four as the Detroit Tigers pounded the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-1, on Thursday.
Gerald Laird added a two-run blast and Ryan Raburn drove in a run for the Tigers, who have won six of their last seven.
Scherzer (10-9) allowed one run on six hits while striking out eight and walking one to post his third straight win. The right-hander has surrendered one run or less in 10 of his last 13 starts to lower his ERA from 6.14 on June 15 to 3.60 after Thursday’s outing.
Detroit gave Scherzer all the support he would need in the fourth, getting to Toronto left-hander Ricky Romero (10-8) for six runs in the frame. Raburn plated the first run and Peralta followed with a three-run blast - his 13th of the season. Laird followed three batters later with his shot to cap the big frame.
Jose Bautista accounted for the Blue Jays’ lone run, hitting his major league-leading 41st homer with the bases empty in the seventh.
