Johnny Damon had three RBIs, Will Rhymes had three hits and drove in two runs and Alex Avila also drove in a pair to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 9-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.
Looking for a sweep of the three-game series, the Angels took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Alberto Callaspo scored on a wild pitch. The Tigers responded with three runs in each of the next two innings to take control.
Rhymes had an RBI double in the fifth and added a run-scoring single in the sixth. Avila started the sixth inning uprising with a two-run single. Damon gave the Tigers some breathing room with a two-run single in the eighth. He also doubled home Rhymes in the fifth.
Detroit starter Rick Porcello picked up his first win since May 23 after losing six straight decisions. Porcello (5-10) allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings. He did not walk a batter and recorded four strikeouts.
Trevor Bell (1-3) took the loss, yielding six runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. Starting for the injured Joel Pineiro, Bell recorded four strikeouts with two walks.
