Tommy Hunter tossed seven scoreless innings to win his seventh straight decision and Ian Kinsler drove in three runs as the Texas Rangers beat the struggling Detroit Tigers 8-0 on Tuesday.
Kinsler, Josh Hamilton and David Murphy all homered for the Rangers, who have won three straight and five of six since the All-Star break.
Texas got another terrific outing from Hunter (7-0), who sent the Tigers to their seventh straight loss. The right-hander allowed just three hits. He struck out three and walked two.
Hunter threw 59 of 92 pitches for strikes and departed with a 4-0 lead. Darren Oliver and Doug Mathis finished off the four-hit shutout.
It was an all-around complete game for Texas, which also executed a squeeze play in a four-run ninth that put the game out of reach.
Kinsler belted a two-run homer later in the frame - his second in as many games - and Hamilton followed with his 23rd homer of the season to make it 8-0.
Tigers’ starter Armando Galarraga (3-3) allowed four runs and nine hits in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked one in his first start since July 6.
