Brett Anderson showed no rust in his return and Mark Ellis homered and drove in four as the Oakland Athletics took care of the Detroit Tigers 6-0 on Saturday.
Ryan Sweeney added an RBI triple and Jack Cust had two hits for the A’s, who have won four straight and seven of eight.
The 22-year-old Anderson spent over a month on the disabled list with tightness in his left elbow but checked out OK during a rehab appearance last week. Oakland activated the left-hander before Saturday’s game and he picked up right where he left off, striking out four and allowing three hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
Anderson (2-1) was limited to just 70 pitches as the club attempts to ease him back into shape.
Ellis touched up Detroit starter Rick Porcello for a solo homer in the fifth for the first run of the game and then put it away in the eight with a three-run double.
Porcello (4-5) was charged with two runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings to suffer the loss for the Tigers, who have dropped four in a row.
