Miguel Cabrera and Magglio Ordonez homered and drove in two runs apiece to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 6-2 victory over the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday afternoon.
The loss was just the second in 14 games for the Dodgers, who now sit a game back of the San Diego Padres in the National League West.
Detroit scored three runs in the first inning, courtesy of an RBI single by Ordonez and Cabrera’s two-run homer.
Ordonez hit a solo homer in the eighth to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.
Rookie second baseman Danny Worth went 3-for-4 and scored one of Detroit’s two ninth-inning runs. It was Worth’s second three-hit game in six major-league contests.
Los Angeles scored its runs in the fifth inning on Xavier Paul’s two-run single.
Rick Porcello (4-4) went six innings and allowed two runs and nine hits. The Dodgers loaded the bases against him in the bottom of the sixth before Porcello retired pinch hitter Manny Ramirez on a grounder to third.
Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda (5-2) allowed three runs and six hits in six innings.
