Austin Kearns homered twice and had four RBIs against his former team to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 7-2 win over the Washington Nationals on Friday night.
Kearns hit a three-run homer in the first and a solo shot in the fourth. Both came off Luis Atilano (5-3), who also gave up a solo home run to Travis Hafner in the sixth.
Jake Westbrook (4-3) gave up Adam Dunn's RBI double in the first, but kept the Nationals from scoring again until the eighth. The right-hander allowed two runs in 7 1/3 innings.
Cleveland’s top prospect Carlos Santana was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in his major league debut. The catcher was called up from Triple-A Columbus on Friday.
Kearns suffered through injury-plagued seasons with Washington the last two years and signed a minor-league contract with the Indians in January. His first-inning home run capped a three-run inning and gave Cleveland the lead for good.
Kearns' homer in the fourth gave Cleveland a 4-1 lead. Hafner's homer put the Indians up by four runs before Trevor Crowe added a two-run double.
Chris Perez pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for his sixth save.
