The Chicago White Sox jumped all over A.J. Burnett early and cruised to a 9-4 win over the New York Yankees on Friday night.
Burnett had trouble with his control and gave up four runs in the first. He got the hook after giving up eight runs on eight hits over 3 1/3 innings.
White Sox third baseman Omar Vizquel had two hits and a pair of RBIs, while A.J. Pierzynski had a two-run double as one of the big hits in the fourth. Juan Pierre added two hits with a couple of runs scored.
Freddy Garcia stayed out of trouble for the most part, allowing one earned run on five hits through seven innings while striking out three.
Garcia turned things over to Erick Threets, who hasn’t allowed an earned run in 11 1/3 innings this year. Threets had to leave after stepping off the mound awkwardly in the top of the ninth.
Scott Linebrink came on to finish things up, allowing a meaningless two-run home run to Nick Swisher in the ninth.
New York’s Sergio Mitre worked 4 2/3 scoreless innings after entering for Burnett.
The Yankees were 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
