Backup catcher Ramon Castro hit two home runs and Paul Konerko and Carlos Quentin added back to-back homers as the Chicago White Sox won their 11th consecutive home game in sweeping the Seattle Mariners with a 9-5 win Thursday night.
Chicago’s streak is its best since winning 13 in a row at old Comiskey Park from July 1-Aug. 5, 1989.
Freddy Garcia (10-4) picked up the win, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings for the White Sox, who earned their first four-game sweep of Seattle since 1983.
Juan Pierre’s two-run double keyed Chicago’s four-run third inning while Castro homered in the fourth and sixth innings. Omar Vizquel added three hits and drove in two runs.
Mariners starter David Pauley (0-3) lasted just 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits.
After Seattle got back to within 7-5 with two runs in the seventh, Konerko led off the bottom half with a homer - his fourth in as many games - and Quentin followed with a blast for the four-run cushion.
Seattle All-Star Ichiro Suzuki had three doubles and scored three runs and Casey Kotchman had two doubles and drove in two runs in the losing effort.
