Jose Bautista hit his 48th home run of the season and the Toronto Blue Jays pounded out 17 hits on the way to an 11-9 win over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Friday night.

With the loss, Boston is 6 1/2 games behind Tampa Bay in the AL wild-card race.

Boston led 2-0 after the first inning on the first of a pair of two-run homers hit by Victor Martinez in the game.

The Blue Jays tied the game with two runs in the second and broke it open with five more in the fifth.

Bautista then capped a three-run sixth inning with a two-run shot over the Green Monster in left field to give Toronto a 10-2 lead. The home run moved Bautista past George Bell for the team record for homers in a single season.

Brett Cecil (13-7) picked up the win allowing five runs in six innings. John Lackey took the loss allowing six earned runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Yunel Escobar had four hits for the Blue Jays and Adam Lind had three hits and three RBIs.

Boston rallied for two runs in the ninth inning but closer Kevin Gregg got Martinez to pop out to the shortstop for the final out with a runner on.
