David Ortiz homered for the third consecutive night and the Boston Red Sox scored seven runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 10-6 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in an interleague game on Friday night.
Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez went 1-for-5 with a single in his highly-anticipated return to Boston for the first time since he was traded by the team in 2008. Ramirez was greeted with mixed responses throughout the night.
Some fans started ”Manny, Manny” chants and others booed and Ramirez made the final out of the game, striking out looking on a curveball by Daniel Bard.
The Red Sox pounded out 13 hits in the game. They took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on homers by Ortiz and J.D. Drew off Carlos Monasterios (3-2).
The Dodgers tied the game in the third inning on an error by winning pitcher Felix Doubront (1-0) and an RBI triple by Matt Kemp. Kemp then scored the tying run on a ground out.
But Boston broke the game open with the big fifth inning as the first eight batters reached base. Adrian Beltre hit a two-run homer in the inning, Kevin Youkilis had an RBI double and Darnell McDonald singled in another run. Dustin Pedroia and Marco Scutaro also had RBIs in the frame.
