Kelly Shoppach homered twice and drove in five runs to pace the host Tampa Bay Rays to a 7-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
Shoppach hit a grand slam to cap a five-run fourth inning and also added a solo shot in the eighth as Tampa Bay won for only the third time in 10 games.
Four different Rays pitchers held the Orioles to four hits as Tampa Bay defeated Baltimore for the second consecutive day. Andy Sonnanstine (3-1) gave up three runs and three hits in five innings to pick up the win.
Tampa Bay belted out 15 hits with Willie Aybar and Jason Bartlett leading the way with three apiece. Aybar had a run-scoring single in the fifth.
Sean Rodriguez had a run-scoring double in the fourth prior to Shoppach’s first homer of the contest.
Adam Jones hit a three-run homer in the third inning for Baltimore.
Orioles starter Brian Matusz (4-12) allowed five runs and nine hits in four innings to take the loss.
