Nick Markakis delivered a bases-loaded walk-off single in the 10th inning to lift the Baltimore Orioles to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.
Markakis’ one-out hit off Bryan Bullington (0-1) capped a comeback from a 3-0 deficit against reigning American League Cy Young winner Zack Greinke and snapped the Orioles’ three-game losing streak.
Corey Patterson hit a solo shot off Royals reliever Blake Wood with one out in the eighth to send the game into extra innings.
Luke Scott hit a pair of solo home runs earlier for Baltimore, who salvaged a split of the two-game series with Kansas City.
It was the fifth multi-hit game in the last seven for Scott, who has five homers and 10 RBIs in that span.
Alfredo Simon (1-1) pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief to get the victory for Baltimore.
Greinke went seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six and walking one. His only mistakes were Scott’s home runs.
Orioles starter Kevin Millwood gave up three runs on 10 hits in eight innings. He struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter.
