Phillip Danault scored two goals to help lead the Los Angeles Kings to a 5-3 road win over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.
Los Angeles won for the third time in its last four games, while Detroit lost for the second time in three games.
The Red Wings opened the scoring toward the end of the first period on a goal by Michael Rasmussen, who stationed himself in front of the Los Angeles goal and banged home a loose puck into a open goal to give Detroit a lead at 17:05.
Los Angeles answered at 12:47 of the second, tying the game at 1-1 on a goal by Danault, who batted a puck in midair near the Detroit goal past Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic.
The Kings then took a 2-1 lead at 18:11 of the second when Arthur Kaliyev tapped home a loose puck that was on the goal line following a shot from the point by Austin Strand.
Detroit tied the game at 8:39 of the third on a goal by Tyler Bertuzzi, who camped himself in front of the Los Angeles goal and tipped a point shot from Gustav Lindstrom past Kings goalie Jonathan Quick to make it 2-2.
A few minutes later, the Kings regained the lead on another goal by Danault. He took a pass from Trevor Moore on a two-on-one and beat Nedeljkovic stick-side to make it 3-2 Los Angeles at 12:12.
Los Angeles got an insurance goal with 1:28 remaining when Viktor Arvidsson scored into an empty net to make it 4-2.
However, Detroit didn't quit, cutting the Los Angeles lead to 4-3 with 45 seconds left on a goal by Joe Veleno.
The Red Wings couldn't get the equalizer, though, and Adrian Kempe put the game away with an empty-net goal with 10 seconds left.
Los Angeles outshot Detroit 45-25. Quick had 22 saves for the Kings.
Nedeljkovic stopped 40 shots for the Red Wings.
