Roman Josi scored the decisive shootout goal, and the visiting Nashville Predators overcame blowing a three-goal, third-period lead to beat the Dallas Stars 4-3 on Sunday night.
Pekka Rinne made 35 saves and a huge stick stop on Dallas' Joe Pavelski in the shootout to help the Predators snap a three-game losing streak.
Mikael Granlund, Calle Jarnkrok and Eeli Tolvanen each had a regulation goal while Filip Forsberg added two assists as Nashville regrouped from a late breakdown to beat Dallas for the first time in three 2021 tries.
Down 3-0, the Stars not only ruined Rinne's 60th-career shutout bid when Radek Faksa scored for a second straight contest with 7:30 left in regulation, but opened the door for an impressive comeback.
Pavelski followed with his team-leading 12th goal -- and NHL-best 10th power-play score -- while the net was coming off its moorings with 5:14 to go. Then, with its own net empty, Dallas tied the game on Jason Robertson's fourth goal with 56.8 seconds left.
Josi, though, came through in the third round of the shootout after each team recorded a goal prior.
Both teams played without several key contributors. The Predators' injury list included defenseman Ryan Ellis, forward Matt Duchene and netminder Juuse Saros. Dallas, meanwhile, was without forward Roope Hintz (lower-body injury) and new father John Klingberg.
Kicking off an eight-game road stretch, Nashville opened the scoring when Granlund redirected in a Forsberg power-play shot past Dallas rookie goalie Jake Oettinger with 4:29 left in the first period. A little more than a minute later, Jarnkrok blew a wrister from the slot by Oettinger to make it 2-0.
After Josi's power-play goal at 7:23 in the second was overturned due to goaltender interference via video review, the Predators eventually made it 3-0 later on the same man-advantage situation. Tolvanen rang the post for his second goal in as many nights.
Oettinger, who made 21 saves in recording his first career shutout during Saturday's 5-0 victory over Columbus, stopped 17 of 20 shots in this contest. Dallas is 2-7-4 since Feb. 4.
