Stars 3, Blues 0: Defenseman Trevor Daley recorded a goal and an assist while Kari Lehtonen posted his fifth shutout of the season as host Dallas clinched its first postseason berth since 2007-08.
Tyler Seguin and Ryan Garbutt also scored as the Stars secured the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Captain Jamie Benn notched two assists and Lehtonen made 22 saves for Dallas, which earned at least one point in nine of its final 10 home games (8-1-1).
Ryan Miller turned aside 37 shots for the Blues, who have scored a total of five goals during their five-game losing streak. St. Louis closes out the regular season at home against Detroit on Sunday with hopes of overtaking Colorado - which plays at Anaheim - for the Central Division title. The teams are even in points, with the Avalanche owning the tiebreaker.
After a scoreless first period, Daley got Dallas on the board at 5:52 of the second as he lifted a backhander past Miller during a breakaway. The Stars doubled the lead during a power play with 8:02 left in the session, when Seguin converted a cross-crease feed from Benn for his 37th of the season.
Garbutt made it 3-0 just 4 1/2 minutes into the third, tipping defenseman Alex Goligoski's blast from the left point past Miller. It was more than enough offensive support for Lehtonen, who made seven saves in the final period to register his 27th career shutout.
