Washington 85, Loyola-Maryland 63: C.J. Wilcox scored 22 points and Abdul Gaddy added 17 as the host Huskies pulled away in the second half to win their season opener.
Washington (1-0) led 48-39 with 14:54 remaining after Desmond Simmons and Wilcox capped a 15-6 run with consecutive 3-pointers, and the Huskies extended their lead to 14 with 5:23 to play.
Dylon Cormier scored 19 points and Erik Etherly added 15 and eight rebounds for Loyola-Maryland (1-1), which is last season’s Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament champion.
Aziz N'Diaye had 10 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds for Washington, which committed 11 turnovers in the first half and just one after halftime. The Huskies shot 54 percent (27 of 50) from the field, including 9 of 17 from beyond the arc.
Washington held a narrow 34-30 rebounding edge over Loyola-Maryland, which opened the season with a win at home over Binghamton on Friday.
