The host Arizona Diamondbacks rallied with a five-run seventh inning to beat the Atlanta Braves 6-4 Thursday afternoon in Phoenix.

Arizona (49-104) snapped a four-game losing streak while avoiding a four-game series sweep in the process.

Atlanta (80-71) failed to extend its lead in the NL East over idle Philadelphia as the Phillies are now 2 1/2 games back.

The Braves were sitting pretty going into the seventh, holding a 4-1 lead with starter Charlie Morton having given up just three hits. But Morton was pulled after giving up consecutive singles to Josh VanMeter and Ildemaro Vargas to lead off the inning.

Jacob Webb (5-4) came in from the bullpen and promptly gave up a three-run home run to Carson Kelly to tie the score.

Kole Calhoun then doubled and gave Arizona the lead when he scored on Daulton Varsho's double over the head of center fielder Guillermo Heredia.

After moving to third, Varsho scored to make it 6-4 on a double down the third base line from pinch hitter Henry Ramos. That was it for Webb. Tyler Matzek came on and struck out VanMeter to end the inning.

Atlanta took the initial lead in the third when Freddie Freeman came home on a double to deep left from Ozzie Albies.

Austin Riley then hit a 0-1 pitch from Madison Bumgarner into the left field seats to give the Braves a 3-0 lead.

Arizona cut into its deficit in the fifth. With one out, Jake McCarthy doubled, then came home on a single from Varsho.

Atlanta got that run back in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Dansby Swanson that plated Adam Duvall.

Bumgarner went five innings, giving up three runs off five hits, with five strikeouts. He kept his unbeaten run against the Braves going, as he has not suffered a loss in his past 11 starts. Bumgarner was in line for the loss Thursday before Kelly's home run.

Morton pitched six-plus innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits and striking out eight. Sean Poppen (1-0) got the win after pitching a scoreless seventh.
