Christian Walker hit two home runs, including his first career slam to cap a five-run seventh inning, and the Arizona Diamondbacks overcame a four-run deficit for a 6-5 victory over the San Diego Padres on Saturday in Phoenix.

Alex Avila walked with one out in the seventh inning and pinch hitter Domingo Leyba singled off David Bednar (0-2) before Jarrod Dyson doubled in a run and Josh Rojas was intentionally walked to load the bases. After a soft lineout, Walker homered to left-center field.

Walker tied a career high with five RBIs in his second career two-homer game.

Arizona (84-77) won its fourth straight game and matched a franchise record with 220 homers this season, first done in 2017.

Manny Machado hit a two-run homer, and Luis Urias and Eric Hosmer had solo homers for the Padres, who have lost five in a row. Urias had three hits, including an RBI single, and Ty France had two hits for the Padres (70-91).

Jimmie Sherfy (1-0) gave up Hosmer's homer in the seventh but was credited with the victory.

Kevin Ginkel pitched around a two-out double by Francisco Mejia in the ninth inning for his second save.

Arizona starter Robbie Ray gave up eight hits and four runs in six innings, with 10 strikeouts and three walks. He extended his career high in strikeouts to 235, which ranks fifth in the NL. He tied his career high with 174 1/3 innings.

Walker, who has 29 homers, led off the second with a home run, but the Diamondbacks did not have another hit until Jake Lamb doubled with two outs in the sixth.

Padres right-hander Garrett Richards gave up one hit and one run in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked four in his third start of the season in his return from Tommy John surgery.

Wil Myers, who tripled but did not score in the first inning, walked to open the third before Machado hit his 32nd homer for a 2-1 lead.

Urias homered to make it 3-1 in the fourth inning, and his RBI single after France doubled in the sixth gave the Padres a 4-1 lead. Hosmer's homer in the seventh made it 5-1.
