Mark Reynolds went 5-for-5 with two homers and tied a team record with 10 RBIs as the Washington Nationals defeated the Miami Marlins 18-4 on Saturday night at Nationals Park.
Reynolds hit a two-run homer and a three-run shot along with a pair of two-run singles plus an RBI double. One night earlier, he crushed a pinch-hit, walk-off homer that gave Washington a 3-2 victory over Miami.
The 34-year-old veteran has six hits in his past six at-bats along with 11 RBIs.
The 10-RBI game tied Anthony Rendon's team record, set April 30, 2017.
Trea Turner drove in eight on Thursday, and the Nationals said this is the first time in six years that a team had two games with at least eight RBI in one season. The Texas Rangers were the last to do so, in 2012.
Pedro Severino added a three-run homer that was the big hit in a seven-run fifth inning in which Washington took charge.
Max Scherzer (11-5) gave up three solo homers and four runs in seven innings in winning for the first time since June 5. He had gone 0-4 in his previous five starts. The right-hander lasted seven innings and gave up four runs on seven hits.
Marlins starter Wei-Yin Chen (2-6) allowed seven runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings and lost his third consecutive game.
In the second inning, Bryce Harper (3-for-3, four runs) led off with a single and scored when Reynolds hit a two-run homer that gave Washington a 2-0 lead.
Starlin Castro and J.T. Realmuto hit back-to-back solo homers off Scherzer and pulled the Marlins into a 2-2 deadlock in the fourth.
In the bottom of the fourth, Harper singled with one out and scored when Reynolds lined a double to left. The Marlins tied it in the fifth on a Miguel Rojas RBI single before the Nationals took over.
The Nationals' seven-run fifth included a Rendon two-run double, and Reynolds added a two-run single two batters later.
Severino hit his three-run shot later in the inning off Elieser Hernandez to give Scherzer and the Nationals a 10-3 lead. Reynolds' three-run blast in the sixth made it 13-3.
Yadiel Rivera hit his first major league homer in the seventh for the Marlins, a solo homer. Washington added five more in the bottom of the seventh, two of which came on Reynolds' second two-run single.
