Hunter Sallis scored 21 points to help host Wake Forest top Virginia 66-47 on Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Salis shot 8 of 13 from the floor and also had nine rebounds in the win for the Demon Deacons (12-4, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), while Andrew Carr added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Wake Forest also got 14 points and seven assists from Kevin Miller, and a stat-stuffing effort of nine points, eight rebounds and a career high-tying five blocks from Efton Reid III.
Reece Beekman paced Virginia (11-5, 2-3) with 10 points and four assists. No other Cavaliers player scored in double figures.
Wake Forest never trailed and held a six-point lead at halftime. To pull away from the Cavaliers, the Deacons opened the second half with a 16-6 run, powered by Miller's five points and three assists in a span of about six minutes.
While Reid had a season-high in blocks, one by Cam Hildreth with 12:23 to play brought the crowd to its feet at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, as he chased down Virginia's Jake Groves with a clean swat. From there, Virginia never trimmed the deficit to single digits.
Wake Forest was strong inside, winning the rebounding battle 40-27 and outscoring the Cavaliers 28-10 in the paint. But the Deacs also shot well from behind the arc, knocking down 10 of 21 3-pointers for a 47.6 percent clip, which ties their season-high mark in ACC play.
The Deacs won handily despite turning the ball over 17 times, marking the first time this season they've captured a victory when coughing up possessions that much.
The result pushes Wake's record at home to a perfect 10-0 this season, while Virginia fell to 0-4 in true road games.
Virginia, which shot a season-worst 28.1 percent (16 of 57) from the floor, has lost four of its last six games.
