SMU 80, Houston 59: Nic Moore tied the school-record with eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 28 as the Mustangs pulled away from the visiting Cougars for their sixth consecutive victory.

Moore made 8-of-11 from behind the arc and added six assists for SMU (16-4, 7-1 American Athletic Conference), which made a season-high 11 from 3-point range. Yanick Moreira chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds while Sterling Brown scored 11 to go along with nine boards and seven assists as the Mustangs shot 51.9 percent from the field.

Jherrod Stiggers led the way with 25 points for Houston (7-12, 0-8), which dropped its eighth straight contest after shooting 35.2 percent from the floor. Danrad Knowles added 10 points and L.J. Rose dished out 10 assists for the Cougars, who have not won since Dec. 28.

Houston led 17-15 early on before SMU ran off 13 straight points – the last six from Moreira – to take control. The Mustangs had a 26-12 edge on the boards in the first half and led by as many as 13, but Stiggers drained a 3-pointer and made two free throws as the Cougars closed to within 37-29 at intermission.

After Stiggers made a 3-pointer to open the second half, a dunk by Moreira and two 3-pointers by Moore highlighted a 12-2 burst as SMU pushed its lead to 15. Houston cut its deficit to 11 before Moore connected on four more 3-pointers during an 18-7 spurt to increase the lead to 67-45 with under eight minutes left and the Mustangs cruised from there.
