Kemba Walker hit a fadeaway jumper with five seconds left in overtime to lift No. 9 Connecticut to an 82-81 victory over No. 12 Texas on Saturday.
Walker finished with 22 points and nine rebounds while Alex Oriakhi added 11 points and 21 boards for the Huskies (12-2).
The host Longhorns (12-3) led by as much as nine points in the first half and took a 37-32 lead into the break. Texas maintained a slim lead until midway through the second half when Shabazz Napier’s 3-pointer at the 10:11 mark gave Connecticut a 58-56 edge. The Huskies would stretch the lead to 63-56 before Texas scored again, with Jordan Hamilton’s free throw snapping a five-minute scoring drought.
Napier hit two more jumpers over the next two minutes to keep Connecticut clear until the Longhorns went on another spurt, pulling ahead 71-70 with 1:33 left. Knotted at 73-73, both teams squandered opportunities in the final seconds, sending it to overtime.
Walker gave the Huskies the lead with a circus-shot 3-pointer with 2:15 left, heaving it up from 35 feet as the shot clock expired, but Texas came back with two straight buckets before Walker struck again with the game-winner.
