Nets 104, Magic 96: Rookie Bojan Bogdanovic shot 9-of-12 from the field for a season-high 22 points as Brooklyn pulled away from visiting Orlando for its fourth win in five games.
Deron Williams contributed 18 points and seven assists and Joe Johnson had 13 points as the Nets finished the game on a 17-7 run. Mason Plumlee recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds, Brook Lopez scored 12 and Kevin Garnett added eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists for Brooklyn.
Nikola Vucevic led the way with a season-high 27 points to go along with 12 rebounds for the Magic, who finished with 17 turnovers. Evan Fournier registered 19 points while Channing Frye had 13 and Luke Ridnour and Tobias Harris each scored 11 as Orlando lost for the 29th time in its last 31 road games.
Orlando moved in front 89-87 on Frye’s 3-pointer with 6:22 left before Plumlee’s dunk, a Bogdanovic 3-pointer and four straight points by Alan Anderson gave Brooklyn a 96-89 lead. The Magic pulled within six twice, but Johnson’s driving layup pushed the advantage to 102-92 with 1:08 to go and the Nets were not threatened again.
Frye registered 10 points in the second quarter to help Orlando build a 47-40 lead before Brooklyn battled back within two at intermission. Bogdanovic scored 11 in the third quarter as Brooklyn took an eight-point lead, but Vucevic countered with 17 in the period as the Magic trimmed their deficit to 81-77 going into the fourth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Johnson became the seventh player in NBA history to record 17,000 points, 4,000 rebounds, 4,000 assists and 1,600 3-pointers after grabbing five boards. … Orlando was without PF Kyle O’Quinn (sprained ankle) and SG Devyn Marble (strained rotator cuff) while SG Victor Oladipo continues to recover from facial fractures. … Brooklyn finished with a 45-31 edge on the boards and made 20-of-23 free throws.
