WIZARDS 101, BOBCATS 73: Nene scored 18 points and John Wall had 16 points and 14 assists as host Washington handed Charlotte its 21st straight defeat.
Jan Vesely added a career-high 16 points on 8-of-8 shooting to help the Wizards record their first four-game winning streak since early in the 2007-08 season.
Gerald Henderson scored 19 points for the Bobcats, who drop to 7-57 and lost by 20 or more points for the 10th time during the franchise-worst losing skid.
Charlotte needs to win one of its final two games to avoid posting the worst winning percentage in NBA history. The 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers hold that dubious mark at .110.
Washington posted a season-best for fewest points allowed while beating the Bobcats for the fourth time this season. The Wizards pulled away with 16 consecutive points over the first and second quarters.
The Bobcats led 22-21 after Henderson’s basket with 2:17 left in the opening quarter before the Wizards went on a four-minute-plus spurt that ended with Nene’s basket to give Washington a 15-point lead. Shelvin Mack’s short basket two minutes later gave the Wizards a 44-24 advantage.
Washington led 63-39 at halftime and boosted the lead to 30 for the first time on Wall’s basket three minutes into the second half.
D.J. Augustin added 15 points for Charlotte, which shot only 34.2 percent.
Charlotte has a road game against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday before closing the season at home against the New York Knicks on Thursday.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Wall fell one assist shy of matching his career-high. … Augustin had missed four straight games because of a knee injury. … Wizards forward Kevin Seraphin had 12 points for this 14th consecutive double-digit effort. … Charlotte forward Tyrus Thomas was ejected late in the first quarter for throwing an elbow at Washington’s James Singleton.
