Monta Ellis scored 25 of his 37 points in the first half and combined with David Lee to spark a third-quarter surge as the host Golden State Warriors outlasted the woeful Washington Wizards 114-104 on Sunday night.
Lee finished with a season-high 33 points and 12 rebounds, and Ellis matched his career high with 13 assists and also grabbed seven rebounds as the Warriors outscored the Wizards 50-37 in the second half.
This performance by the Warriors (32-42) came just two nights after they posted 84 first-half points Friday in a 138-100 thrashing over the Toronto Raptors.
JaVale McGee had a career-high 28 points and 18 rebounds and Maurice Evans added a season-high 23 points for the Wizards (17-55), who fell to 1-35 on the road this season.
Six more road losses by Washington to close the season would tie the 1990-91 Sacramento Kings for the worst mark in NBA history.
Lee scored 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Ellis added eight in the decisive third quarter, and the Warriors held the Wizards to 7-of-26 shooting and 17 points to turn a three-point halftime deficit into a 90-84 lead.
The Wizards wouldn’t go away, but Dorell Wright drained consecutive 3-pointers to lift Golden State to a 106-96 lead with just over three minutes left.
McGee had 22 points and 11 rebounds and John Wall handed out nine assists as Washington took a 67-64 lead at the half. Wall finished with 18 points and 12 assists.
