Ryan Dzingel scored 3:44 into overtime as the visiting Ottawa Senators completed a season sweep of the Winnipeg Jets with a 4-3 victory on Saturday.
Ottawa defenseman Thomas Chabot nearly ended the contest when his shot hit the post in the opening minute of overtime. Dzingel made it count by accepting a saucer pass from Chris Tierney before beating Laurent Brossoit to lift the Senators, who posted a 5-2 win over the Jets last Saturday.
Winnipeg native Mark Stone netted his career-high 27th goal for Ottawa by scoring for the third time in two games against his hometown team. Matt Duchene joined Stone and Dzingel with a goal and an assist, Rudolfs Balcers also tallied on the power play and Anders Nilsson finished with 23 saves.
Defenseman Tyler Myers scored twice and Brandon Tanev collected a goal and an assist for the Jets, who have dropped five of their last seven games. Brossoit turned aside 37 shots en route to losing his third straight game.
With Ottawa on a 5-on-3 advantage, Duchene converted Bobby Ryan's backdoor feed from the right doorstep to lift the Senators to a 3-2 lead just 47 seconds into the third period. The slim advantage stood until Myers' one-timer from the slot beat Nilsson with 5:59 remaining in regulation.
Balcers redirected Dzingel's shot for a power-play goal at 13:53 of the second period to forge a 2-2 tie. Winnipeg nearly regained the lead 15 seconds later, but the Senators successfully challenged an offside call to negate defenseman Ben Chiarot's apparent go-ahead goal.
Stone continued his success versus his hometown team by scoring on a one-timer just 1:38 into the contest, but Tanev tallied on a short-handed breakaway 78 seconds later with his career-high 13th goal and second in as many games.
Tanev backhanded a feed from along the left-wing boards to Myers, who beat Nilsson from the right circle at 5:33 of the first period for Winnipeg's ninth short-handed goal of the season.
The Jets' two short-handed goals were the quickest in franchise history, besting the previous record set by the then-Atlanta Thrashers in 2003.
