Wild 4, Jets 3 (OT): Defenseman Marco Scandella scored 1:01 into overtime and Zach Parise tallied twice in the first period as host Minnesota overcame squandering a three-goal lead to rally to win its third in a row.
Parise, who missed his team's last five games with a concussion, netted a power-play goal 4:11 into the contest and scored again at 18:45 as the Wild built a 3-0 advantage after one period. Jason Pominville recorded three assists and Niklas Backstrom (19 saves) carried a shutout into the third before allowing three goals in 4:23 and giving way to Darcy Kuemper (three saves).
Michael Frolik, Evander Kane, and captain Andrew Ladd each tallied a goal for the Jets, who saw Ondrej Pavelec surrender three goals on 11 shots before being replaced by Michael Hutchinson to start the second period. Hutchinson recorded 15 saves but got beat on Scandella’s wrist shot from the point for his third goal of the season.
Parise drew a hooking penalty against Blake Wheeler just 21 seconds into the contest, setting up Nino Niederreiter’s power-play goal at 2:07 off assists from Thomas Vanek and Justin Fontaine. Parise’s slap shot bounded past Pavelec, and he netted his second of the period as Pominville’s shot went off his leg and video review upheld the goal.
Frolik got the Jets on the board at 5:55 of the third, corralling a rebound of Matt Halischuk’s shot, and Kane’s shot from the corner off a Dustin Byfuglien assist slipped by Backstrom at 8:19 to make it a one-goal game. Ladd redirected Adam Pardy’s shot past Backstrom at 10:47 to forge a tie.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Scandella had missed the past two games with the mumps. ... The Wild placed D Jonas Brodin on injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 11, to make room for Parise. … Wheeler hit the post with a little more than two minutes left in regulation. … Winnipeg lost F Mark Scheifele to a lower-body injury.
