Alex Tanguay had a goal and two assists and Miikka Kiprusoff turned aside 41 shots as the host Calgary Flames cruised past the slumping Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 on Tuesday.
Tanguay's third multi-point effort in the last six games paced the Flames, who improved to 4-1-1 in their last six games and moved to within a point of eighth-place Phoenix in the West.
Toronto has dropped four in a row.
After Tanguay opened the scoring at 4:43, Olli Jokinen doubled the advantage 3 1/2 minutes later. The surging forward one-timed Tanguay's pass into a wide-open net for his sixth goal in the last six games.
Tyler Bozak put Toronto on the board with 3:18 remaining in the period, jamming in a rebound at the edge of the crease after winning an offensive zone faceoff.
Paul Byron restored the two-goal edge on a penalty shot near the midway point of the second frame after he was hauled down by Toronto's Dion Phaneuf. Byron dangled the puck to the left of Toronto netminder Jonas Gustavsson before wiring a forehand past his outstretched blocker.
Blake Comeau added to the lead with 4:51 remaining, converting a slick Michael Cammalleri feed following a Mikhail Grabovski giveaway behind the Toronto net. Jarome Iginla concluded the scoring 2:35 later with his 22nd of the season.
