Freshman guard Marcus Zegarowski scored 20 points and his six 3-pointer gave Creighton a school-record 22 from behind the arc as the Bluejays rolled to an easy 110-60 victory over Division III Coe College on Thursday night in Omaha, Neb.
Zegarowski drained the record-setting 3-pointer with 31 seconds left. The 22 3-pointers also set a new Big East record as well as breaking the school mark of 21 set against Villanova on Jan. 20, 2014.
Senior guard Connor Cashaw hit the tying 3-pointer with 2:51 left. The Bluejays (8-4) attempted 37 shots from long range and shot 64.6 percent overall.
Junior forward Martin Krampelj scored 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting and freshman center Samson Froling had 17 points for Creighton. Sophomore guard Ty-Shon Alexander made four 3-pointers while scoring 14 points and senior guard Kaleb Joseph had 11 points.
The Bluejays held a commanding 46-14 rebounding edge.
The game was an exhibition for Coe College and the contest doesn't affect its record or statistics. The Kohawks, who are located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, have a 6-5 record against non-Division I foes this season.
It was the third meeting between the two schools and the first since 1928.
Junior guard Adam McDermott scored 15 points on five 3-pointers for Coe. McDermott is the nephew of Creighton coach Greg McDermott.
Junior guard Josh Schmitt added 12 points for the Kohawks, who shot 38.2 percent from the field and made 16 of 36 from 3-point range.
Creighton sophomore center Jacob Epperson missed his second straight game due to a back injury.
The Bluejays possessed a 38-10 edge in points in the paint as well as shooting solidly from outside.
Krampelj tallied 16 first-half points on 7-of-9 shooting as the Bluejays built a 60-31 lead.
Creighton shot 66.7 percent from the field in the half, and made 12 of 20 from 3-point range.
Coe College shot 37.9 percent in the half, including 9 of 22 from long range.
Froling's layup gave the Bluejays a 32-12 lead midway through the half.
Alexander's 3-pointer pushed Creighton's lead to 60-28 with 1:31 remaining.
The assault continued in the second half and the lead reached 40 for the first time when Johnson drilled a 3-pointer with 6:47 remaining.
Cashaw's 3-pointer that tied the team mark pushed the lead above 50 at 105-54.
