Georgia 67, LSU 58: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 22 points, six steals and five assists as the host Bulldogs earned their first Southeastern Conference win.
Forward Donte’ Williams’ three-point play with 3:24 left snapped a 54-all tie and put Georgia ahead for good. Williams finished with 14 points for Georgia (7-10, 1-3 SEC), which forced 19 turnovers.
LSU (9-6, 0-4) is the only team winless in SEC play. The Tigers lost despite a monster effort from Johnny O’Bryant III, who had 16 points and 14 rebounds but committed five turnovers. Anthony Hickey scored 12 points and Malik Morgan added 11 for LSU.
Georgia, which led 33-29 at the break, had 16 assists against 16 turnovers and shot 46.8 percent (22-of-47).
The Tigers were 18-of-50 (36 percent) from the field and 16-of-24 (67 percent) from the foul line.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Bulldogs trail the series 61-42, but are 26-21 against the Tigers in Athens. … Caldwell-Pope is the only Bulldog who has started all 17 games; he’s led the team in scoring 15 times. … LSU came in leading the SEC with 10.4 steals per game and got 11 more Saturday, including five by Hickey.
