No. 21 Minnesota 71, USC 57: Andre Hollins led four Golden Gophers in double figures with 14 points as visiting Minnesota gave coach Tubby Smith his 500th career victory.
Minnesota (10-1) scored the game's first nine points and never trailed. It led 38-26 at the half as Smith became the 19th active Division I coach to reach 500 victories and the Golden Gophers ran their winning streak to six.
The Gophers got 13 points and 11 rebounds from Rodney Williams and a dozen points off the bench from Trevor Mbakwe. Joe Coleman added 10 for Minnesota, which shot 41.8 percent from the field.
USC (3-6) was led by Omar Oraby with 15 points but lost for the fifth straight time. The Trojans haven't won since they beat Texas in overtime on Nov. 20.
USC cut the deficit to 61-52 with five minutes to play, but the Gophers got a big steal by Austin Hollins and Andre Hollins followed with a dunk. USC never got closer than nine the rest of the way.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Oraby was 7-for-9 from the field. ... Byron Wesley had 13 points for the Trojans. ...Minnesota's lone loss was to second-ranked Duke. ...It was the second true road game for the Golden Gophers. They won at Florida State 77-68. ...Mo Walker did not play for the Gophers. The 6-10 sophomore had played in the previous 10 games and was on the bench.
