LSU 75, Mississippi Valley State 50: Shavon Coleman scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Tigers overcame a slow start to fend off the Delta Devils for their fourth straight win.
LSU started 0-for-10 from the field as Mississippi Valley State jumped out to a 6-1 lead but the Tigers (4-0) started to heat up shortly after. Malik Morgan's 3-pointer - his only field goal of the game - broke the slump and LSU hit 10 of its next 15 shots for a 33-23 lead at halftime.
After the break, the Tigers maintained their 10-point lead but struggled to pull away. With 16:54 to go, LSU went on an 8-1 run to extend the lead to 17 and coasted down the stretch.
Andre Stringer added 14 points for LSU, which shot 69.6 percent from the floor in the second half. The Tigers, who allowed a total of 111 points in their first two games before 95 last time out, got things back under control defensively.
Davon Usher led the Delta Devils (0-4) with 16 points. Mississippi Valley State shot 17-of-60 (28.3 percent) for the game.
GAME NOTEBOOK: LSU coach Johnny Jones joined Trent Johnson as the only coaches in school history to win their first four games. ... After a 102-point outburst against Northwestern State - their first triple digit game in nearly seven years - the Tigers' 75 points fall right in line with their point totals from two other wins: 77 against UC-Santa Barbara and 73 against McNeese. ... LSU's free throw proficiency had been a problem coming in, connecting at 51.6 percent, but the Tigers converted 14-of-23 from the line against the Delta Devils.
