Pierre Jackson scored 14 points, including the game-winning layup with 31 seconds left, to lead No. 7 Baylor past No. 14 Mississippi State 54-52 on Wednesday in Dallas.
The Bears (13-0), who are off to their best start in program history, trailed 52-50 with 3:26 remaining but held the Bulldogs (12-2) scoreless from that point and remained one of four unbeaten teams in Division I.
With the game tied at 52, Jackson scooted past the Mississippi State defenders for the go-ahead layup. The Bulldogs had one final chance to tie the game or take the lead, but Rodney Hood’s shot was blocked by Quincy Acy in the final seconds.
Freshman Quincy Miller had 12 points and six rebounds, and Brady Heslip scored 11 on 4-of-7 shooting for the Bears, who led 34-33 at halftime.
Jalen Steele and Renardo Sidney scored 10 points apiece for Mississippi State, which had its 11-game winning streak snapped by shooting only 29.4 percent from 3-point range.
Sidney fouled out, the last foul coming on a technical with 1:35 left. That resulted in a four free-throw possession for Baylor, which made two to tie the game at 52.
Six teams were undefeated entering Wednesday's games before Louisville and Indiana lost.
