No. 12 Florida exploded for 56 points in the second half and beat Tennessee 85-74 Friday in an SEC quarterfinal at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
The Gators (25-6) will play Vanderbilt in Saturday’s semifinals.
Florida put all five starters in double figures, led by Kenny Boynton’s 22 points, and shot a scorching 82 percent (14 of 17) after halftime and added 14 free throws.
Tennessee (19-14) closed the first half on an 18-2 spurt, highlighted by a Tobias Harris dunk and 3-pointer, to lead 34-29. But with the game tied at 50, Boynton sparked a 25-12 Florida run with 10 points, including a three-point play.
It was Florida’s fourth straight win over Tennessee, and the third this season. Erving Walker added 17 points and Vernon Macklin 15 for the Gators.
Harris led the Volunteers with 25 points. Scotty Hopson scored 19 but committed seven turnovers.
