Freshman Josh Gasser banked home a 3-pointer at the buzzer, allowing No. 12 Wisconsin to escape with a 53-52 victory at Michigan on Wednesday evening.
The Badgers (21-6, 11-4 Big Ten) had not scored since Gasser's layup at the three-minute mark tied the score at 50-50. Michigan got a short jumper from Jordan Morgan with 2:44 left but was unable to put the game away — in part because it missed its last six free-throw attempts.
Jordan Taylor paced Wisconsin with 20 points and five assists. Jon Leuer missed all six of his 3-point shots but still finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Wolverines (17-12, 7-9) got 16 points from Tim Hardaway Jr.and 12 from Morgan.
Michigan, which likely fell out of NCAA Tournament at-large consideration with the loss, stayed close with defense. It held Wisconsin to 32.3 percent shooting in the second half, including a 3-of-17 effort from 3-point range.
