Alabama stayed red hot Wednesday, winning for the ninth time in 10 games by defeating Mississippi State 75-61 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The SEC West-leading Crimson Tide (14-7, 6-1 SEC) scored nine of the game’s first 11 points, and built a 20-10 lead on Tony Mitchell’s dunk with 13:23 left in the first half. The Bulldogs (11-10, 3-4 SEC) used a 10-4 run to pull within 24-20 on Wendell Lewis’ jumper with 5:36 remaining in the half.
Alabama closed the first half with an 11-3 surge, taking a 35-23 lead into halftime on Charvez Davis’ 3-pointer with three seconds left. Another Davis 3-pointer three minutes into the second half staked the Crimson Tide to a 45-27 advantage.
Mitchell led four Alabama players in double figures with 23 points. Davis hit five 3-pointers, scoring 17 points. Trevor Releford scored 16 and JaMychal Green added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Tops in the conference and fourth in the nation in points allowed (56.8), Alabama held the Bulldogs to 41.2 percent shooting. Mississippi State, which upset No. 23 Florida 71-64 on Saturday, was led by Dee Bost’s 18 points.
The Crimson Tide play host to Tennessee on Saturday. Mississippi State travels to LSU on Saturday.
