South Carolina topped Delaware State 74-61, Wednesday at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, S.C.
South Carolina (5-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the first half, but Delaware State (2-3) proved tough to stop throughout the first 20 minutes. The Hornets held a 37-35 lead at halftime, before South Carolina began the second half with a 7-0 run.
The Gamecocks led by one, 42-41, with 16:51 remaining in the second half. But they went on an 8-2 run over the next two and a half minutes to put the game out of reach.
Lakeem Jackson just missed a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds for South Carolina. Jackson was one of four double-figure scorers for the Gamecocks. Brian Richardson and Malik Cooke also had 12 points and reserve Johndre Jefferson added 11 points.
Marques Oliver scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Hornets.
