Joe Johnson scored 22 points and Al Horford added 20 points and 12 rebounds as the Atlanta Hawks took down the Philadelphia 76ers 104-101 Friday.
Jamal Crawford chipped in 19 points off the bench and Josh Smith recorded 12 points, nine rebounds and five blocks for the Hawks, who have opened the season with back-to-back wins.
Atlanta took the lead at the end of the first quarter when Crawford was fouled on a 3-point attempt and converted all three free throws for a 33-30 edge. Crawford added four more points during a 6-0 run to open the second quarter as the Hawks began to pull away.
They controlled the third quarter and the first half of the fourth, pushing the lead to as much as 15 points on Jeff Teague’s layup late in the third.
The 76ers made a strong push at the end, pulling to within 99-97 on Andres Nocioni’s dunk with 1:07 remaining, but Smith drained a 3-pointer with 47 seconds left and Johnson hit two free throws in the final 11 seconds to put it away.
