WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Michigan wore regular uniforms on Friday.

And once again the Wolverines won, less than 48 hours after their plane ran into a ditch in Michigan.

Michigan upset top seed and 13th-ranked Purdue 74-70 in overtime on Friday to advance to the Big Ten conference semifinals against either Michigan State or Minnesota.

"We feel very fortunate for that win," Michigan coach John Beilein said. "Great basketball game. Just a great basketball game. We are thrilled by it. The growth, our success over the last month and a half is in direct correlation to how our defense has improved. All of their threes were well-earned."

The eighth-seeded Wolverines knocked off Illinois on Thursday, after they arrived on a flight earlier in the day. Michigan wore practice jerseys against Illinois but had their regular threads Friday.

"They are a good team. They are experienced. They played really well against us in Ann Arbor a couple of weeks ago. They have good balance," said Purdue coach Matt Painter. "Give them credit for winning two games."

Guard D.J. Wilson scored 18 of his 26 points in the first half and Zak Irvin keyed a late second-half run for the Wolverines. Michigan was down nine in the first half before overcoming the deficit.

"We just had a warrior mentality. We knew it wasn't going to be easy," Irvin said. "A lot of confidence. We feel like we can do anything. We are playing real connected right now. We just have to do that going forward."

Michigan had 11 offensive rebounds and won despite making just six of 25 three-point shots. Purdue made just six of 13 free throws and hit only one of eight shots from the field in overtime. Carsen Edwards and fellow reserve Isaac Haas each had 17 points for Purdue.

"It was just a breakdown defensively," Haas said of long rebounds. "We have to step up to them. It is either going to go in or go long. We did do that (rebounding) tonight."

Top-seeded Purdue (25-7) will now watch Selection Sunday to see who it will play in the NCAA tournament as an at-large team. Purdue standout Caleb Swanigan (13 points, 11 rebounds) fouled out with 20.1 seconds left in overtime.

Irvin, who had 13 points, gave his team a lead of 68-66 with just under three minutes left in overtime. He then scored his sixth point in a row to make it 70-67. Purdue then missed a 3-point attempt and got the ball back after Irvin misfired on three-pointer.

The Boilermakers called time with 49.6 seconds left and cut the lead to 72-70, but Michigan reserve Duncan Robinson made two free throws with 1.1 seconds left the seal the victory.

Irvin tied the game at 66 with a driving layup with 4.2 seconds left in regulation.

Michigan led 38-37 at halftime as Wilson had 18 points and four rebounds.

Purdue took a lead of 61-59 on a dunk by Haas with 4:15 left in the game. The Boilermakers made it 66-63 on a basket by reserve Edwards with 33.4 seconds left in regulation.

Wilson made a free throw to cut it to 66-64 with 21.4 seconds left. Purdue could have sealed the win with 18.6 seconds left in regulation but guard P.J. Thompson missed the front end of the one-and-one. That set the stage for the basket by Irvin and the overtime win.

"They were doing a job of playing post 'D,'" Painter said of defending Swanigan, the all-conference player who had just three points in the second half. "Early on they were calling the fouls. As the game progressed, they stopped. But we had the ball at the rim a lot. That is what you want. You want the ball at the rim as much as possible. But it's one of those games where we had some chippies not go our way."

NOTES: Michigan beat Purdue 82-70 at home Feb. 25 ... Purdue F Moritz Wagner, who had 24 points in that game, was held to five on Friday ... F Caleb Swanigan, G P.J.
