Sophomore center Jessie Govan scored 20 points, and Georgetown took care of UNC Greensboro 78-56 Thursday at Verizon Center in Washington.

Junior guard L.J. Peak added 16 points, and sophomore forward Marcus Derrickson came off the bench to score 15 points for the Hoyas (8-4), who won their sixth in a row.

Peak hit nine of 11 free throws and added five rebounds and five assists.

Senior center R.J. White scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Spartans (9-4), who had their two-game winning streak snapped. Senior guard Diante Baldwin finished with 10 points and six rebounds.

Georgetown shot 50.9 percent from the floor and connected on nine of 17 3-point attempts. The Spartans shot 31.4 percent from the field and made only 3 of 14 from long distance.

UNC Greensboro cut the Georgetown lead to nine early in the second half on a jumper by Francis Alonso, but the Spartans never got closer. Derrickson and Govan each hit 3-pointers to ignite a surge that increased the Hoyas' lead to 60-43 with 7:13 left.

Govan added nine rebounds, five assists and four blocks to his game-high 20 points. The Hoyas' bench, led by Derrickson, outscored UNC Greensboro's reserves 27-16.

Rodney Pryor's 3-pointer gave Georgetown an early 17-12 lead. The Hoyas followed with a 14-1 run and led 40-26 at halftime. Pryor finished with 12 points and five rebounds.

The Hoyas, who were picked fourth in the Big East by the media in the preseason poll, open conference play at Marquette on Wednesday.

The Spartans open Southern Conference play against The Citadel on Wednesday. UNC-Greensboro is picked to finish in the middle of the pack in the league.
