Melo Trimble scored 15 of his 23 points in the first half, Mikal Cekovsky added 15 and Dion Wiley had 13 as Maryland defeated Jacksonville State 92-66 on Monday at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland.

Freshmen Anthony Cowan and Justin Jackson added 12 points each for the Terps, who are now 8-1 at home this year and 42-3 over the last three seasons. Ivan Bender was the sixth Terp in double figures with 10 as Maryland made 27 of 35 free throws.

Trimble hit all five shots from the field in the first half, including a trio of 3-pointers, and made both of his free throws. The Big Ten conference Terps (11-1) made 61 percent of their shots from the field in the first half while taking a 42-29 lead.

The Gamecocks (5-6) of the Ohio Valley Conference were paced by freshman forward Jacara Cross and senior guard Greg Tucker with 10 points each. Cross made his first start of the season while Tucker came off the bench for the first time this year.

Maryland led 55-38 early in the second half but went cold and missed five straight shots. Jacksonville State cut the lead to 57-47 with 12:33 remaining on a basket by Tyrik Edwards, who also made his first start. But Trimble made a 3-pointer as Maryland led 76-58 with 5:55 to go.

Cross scored his team's first six points and his tip gave the visitors a 17-14 lead midway through the first half. But Maryland took the lead at 19-17 on a 3-pointer by Wiley with 10:10 left in the first half and never trailed after that.

Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon began his college coaching career at Jacksonville State, and was there from 1998-2000.

Jacksonville State head coach Ray Harper was hit with a technical foul with 19:38 left in the game.
