ATLANTA -- Freshman guard Josh Okogie had 18 points and five rebounds in his college debut on Friday to help Georgia Tech usher in the coach Josh Pastner era with a 70-55 win over Tennessee Tech at McCamish Pavilion.

Okogie shot 7 of 9 from the floor and was one of three Yellow Jackets in double figures. Center Ben Lammers was also 7 for 9 from the field to score 15 points and had a game-high eight rebounds. Forward Quinton Stephens added 12 points.

Tennessee Tech (0-1) was led by Micaiah Henry with 15 points and five rebounds and Ja'Cardo Hawkins, who had 10 points.

Georgia Tech got off to a slow start and led only 30-27 at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets took control in the second half and outscored Tennessee Tech 40-28.

Georgia Tech shot 56 percent from the floor, but made only 3 of 11 on 3-point attempts. A big difference was on the boards, where Georgia Tech dominated 26-26.

Pastner, formerly the coach at Memphis, was hired in the spring to replace Brian Gregory, who was fired after a 21-15 season. He inherited a team that lost its four leading scorers.

Georgia Tech was playing without starting point guard Josh Heath. He is suspended for the first four games of the season for violation of team rules.
