Royce White scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half and had eight rebounds as host Iowa State took control early en route to an 86-76 victory over rival Iowa on Friday.
The Cyclones (7-3) broke open the game with a 17-4 run midway through the opening half. Leading 15-13 with 12 minutes left in the half, Iowa State scored 10 consecutive points, including 3-pointers from Tyrus McGee and Bubu Palo.
After Iowa's Roy Devyn Marble made two free throws, the Cyclones scored seven of the next nine points. Melvin Ejim’s layup off a White assist gave Iowa State a 32-17 lead with 6:31 to go before halftime.
The Cyclones shot 59.4 percent from the field in the first half, including 6-for-11 from 3-point range, and forced eight turnovers to take a 48-27 lead at intermission.
Marble scored a game-high 21 points and Melsahn Basabe had 18 points and nine rebounds as Iowa (5-5) lost for the fifth time in seven games following a 3-0 start.
Bubu Palo had 14 points and six assists for Iowa State.
