Illinois recorded its highest point total of the season, topping Chicago State 90-43 at Assembly Hall.
Illinois (6-0) extended its non-conference home winning streak to 22 games and is 6-0 to start the season for the first time since 2008-09.
Chicago State (0-6) fell to 0-10 all-time versus Illinois.
The Fighting Illini opened the game with a 13-3 run and took a 44-19 lead into the half, limiting the Cougars to 3-for-23 shooting. Chicago State shot just 34 percent for the game.
A fast break tomahawk jam from 7-footer Meyers Leonard, who was trailing the play, broke the backs of the Cougars early into the second half. Leonard finished with 11 points in limited minutes.
Illinois did a great job of swinging the ball to find the open man. The team totaled 25 assists, five coming from D.J. Richardson, who also scored 11 points and went 3 for 6 from beyond the arc
Jeremy Robinson led the Cougars with 14 points and was Chicago State’s only double-figure scorer. The lone highlight was Clarke Rosenberg’s dunk over Leonard. Rosenberg chipped in with nine points off the bench.
Illinois reserves Myke Henry and Nnanna Egwu made the most of the blowout minutes, scoring 14 and 11 points respectively.
