Bo Spencer scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half as Nebraska downed visiting South Dakota State 76-64 on Saturday.
Spencer added eight assists and six rebounds for the Huskers (4-1), who rebounded from their first loss of the season on Wednesday to Oregon with a strong defensive effort.
Nebraska allowed 80 points at home in the loss to the Ducks for just the sixth time in coach Doc Sadler’s six seasons, but returned to its stingy defensive ways against South Dakota State (4-3) by limiting it to 33.9 percent shooting from the field.
The Huskers took the lead for good late in the first half, but could not stretch the lead past 12 points until late in the game as Griffan Callahan nailed five second-half 3-pointers to keep the Jackrabbits within striking distance.
But Nebraska had an answer each time South Dakota State threatened and improved to 51-2 at the Devaney Sports Center against non-conference opponents.
Callahan finished with a game-high 25 points for the Jackrabbits.
