D.J. Gay hit the game-winning basket with 1.8 seconds left to give No. 6 San Diego State a dramatic 56-54 victory over host Colorado State on Wednesday.
Gay hit a 17-footer from the left wing to help the Aztecs (22-1, 7-1 Mountain West) defeat the Rams for the eighth straight time.
The Rams tied the score on Travis Franklin’s layup with 10.1 seconds left.
James Rahon scored a team-high 15 points for San Diego State. Kawhi Leonard added 12 and 15 rebounds. Gay scored just six points on 3-of-9 shooting, as San Diego State shot just 40 percent.
Andy Ogide had 18 points and 12 rebounds for Colorado State (15-7, 5-3).
The Rams used a 6-0 run to tie the score at 52, pulling even on Ogide’s two free throws with 4:21 remaining. Billy White put San Diego State back ahead on a jumper with 2:30 remaining.
Franklin scored 10 points for Colorado State, which shot just 36.5 percent from the field.
